The most powerful force in the universe
"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness" Rom 1:18 NKJV
All ungodly activity suppresses the knowledge of God. It seeks to edify itself. To the concept of a god who is personally interested in human-kind, the world offers a faith in an impersonal force. But to this, we cannot deny, there are forces in the universe, such as the force of nature, the force of gravity, etc. But yet, the world fails to attribute to these forces the personal being who holds things things in His hands. They deny such a being exists. That if there is a God, then he too is subject to these impersonal forces. This sounds appealing at face value, because it rids one of any direct accountability for his or her actions.
The non-Christian believes that if they can define the ultimate force of the universe, they can, in turn, come up with an answer to life, meaning, and the universe. So we see supposedly credible scientists exploring things like 'chaos theory', and more recently, 'string theory', in order to find a unifying principle that connects all the dots and provides us with the meaning of existence. Is there such a force?
The Christian can answer that yes, indeed there is such a force. It underlies all meaning, all purpose, and indeed the very fabric of the universe depends on it. It is called 'relationships'. For it is upon relationships that new truths are discovered. Discoveries are made when we see how new information relates to what we already are familiar with. What are facts except that which we relate objects with a properties. It is an act of relating. Relationships are the building blocks for knowledge
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge
But fools despise wisdom and instruction. Prov 1:7
Solomon had recognized that true knowledge begins with a relationship with God. True knowledge can only be obtained through thinking thoughts after God. He is our true source for interpretation, and understanding.
Thomas Kuhn, in his famous book The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, had set out to find how scientific progress is made. There were some very important observations that he makes. One is that scientists operate within a community, that community upholds a standard for what true science is (a dogma, if you will). New information cannot be assimilated into these communes if they are perceived to contradict their dogmatic definition, or as Kuhn calls it, their paradigm. The only way that scientific progression can take place is if the community can trust the source of this new information. In short, new paradigms, doctrines, and dogmas, cannot by assimilated until a relationship of trust can be established between the commune and the bearer of new information.
This is a critical observation. Besides the fact that it does show that our scientific experts are just as guilty of dogmatic, bull-headedness they often attribute to religion, it shows that no one is persuaded by rational arguments or even scientific method. One can only be convinced of truth, when a relationship of trust has been established.
