WATER BIRD
The rain in this arid place
Seems strange and out of place
As though the land might collapse
Under the weight and send us hurtling
Into inside space, an implosion
With all the force of a collapsed
Vacuum, space filling as a water
Fall fills the space beneath it,
And I might at last come up
On the back side in darkness
In a room-like cave where only I
Exist in solipsistic isolation
Without even a rainbow
To bridge me back to reality.
I pull back from the edge,
Drenched to the bone, hugging
My wings to my side to give me warmth.
Only then do I look about, perched
Here high up and find I am but one
Among many, watching the world,
Ready to fly at first light.
